LAS VEGAS \u2013 March 6, 2018 \u2013<\/strong><\/span> Samsung Electronics America<\/strong> today kicked off its presence and programming at the annual Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society Conference (HIMSS)<\/strong> in Las Vegas. In Room #606 (Level 1) of the Sands Convention Center, Samsung will showcase and demo solutions developed in partnership with leading healthcare organizations, as well as enhancements to its Samsung Health platform with the recent launch of the Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9+<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cSamsung has a deep history in healthcare, tracing back to the early 1990\u2019s with the opening of the Samsung Medical Center in Korea,\u201d said Dr. David Rhew, chief medical officer and head of healthcare and fitness, Samsung Electronics America.<\/strong> \u201cWe have built on that heritage by developing transformative digital health solutions that improve the health & well-being for the healthy, sick, and aged to create a better world.\u201d<\/p>\n

Samsung will showcase solutions at HIMSS that speak to the following social needs:<\/p>\n

Helping Seniors and the Disabled Lead Healthier, More Independent Lives<\/strong><\/span><\/h4>\n

With the aging population driving an increased demand for in-home medical care, healthcare costs across the board are on the rise. Innovative digital and telehealth technology solutions, developed in partnership with Samsung, are working to ease this demand, by offering remote health monitoring and by tracking indicators such as activity level, heart rate and sleep quality.<\/p>\n

Samsung has developed wearable solutions in partnership with Reemo Health and MobileHelp\u00ae that give seniors and those managing chronic conditions peace of mind that help is instantly and easily accessible. The solutions also offer professional caregivers the ability to monitor trends and activity, so that health regimens and treatments can be adjusted as quickly as possible.<\/p>\n

Virtual Pain Relief with Real-World Impact<\/strong><\/span><\/h4>\n

Marrying the latest virtual reality technology and wearables devices with bio-data-driven applications is creating new solutions to help those with acute and chronic pain1<\/sup>. Samsung has partnered with AppliedVR to offer users immersive, entertaining and therapeutic content on the Samsung Gear VR, powered by Oculus\u2014helping enhance the overall experience for patients. In the most recent randomized control trial at Cedars-Sinai, the solution reduced pain by 52% and proved to be more effective than other distraction therapies and may play a critical role as a viable, non-pharmaceutical pain management alternative1<\/sup>. Today, Travelers Companies, Samsung Electronics America, Cedars-Sinai, Bayer and AppliedVR announced they would commence a new study to explore the effectiveness of a digital pain-reduction kit that uses therapeutic virtual reality and wearable technology as a non-pharmacological supplement to managing pain associated with acute orthopedic injuries of the lower back and extremities.<\/p>\n

Improving Access to Care for Consumers<\/strong><\/p>\n

Samsung continues to innovate its Samsung Health service, which is a comprehensive health and wellness platform that enables consumers to keep track of calorie intake, record fitness activities and even connect with healthcare professionals in real time, straight from their phone. Today, Samsung Health announced the Diabetes Wellness Program is available in the Samsung Health service, a 12-week program designed to help adults with type 2 diabetes achieve a healthy lifestyle and manage their condition.<\/p>\n
