The program\u2019s goal is to inspire kids\u2019 curiosity in STEM subjects and prepare young people for 21st century success.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou will see them. They just &#8212; they light up and it\u2019s incredibly rewarding,\u201d said <strong>Amanda Grutza, STEM facilitator<\/strong> at the Variety Boys &amp; Girls Club in Long Island City, Queens. The club is one of many Boys &amp; Girls Clubs offering the DIY STEM curriculum sponsored by Samsung.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<div id=\"attachment_21036\" style=\"width: 960px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/img.us.news.samsung.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/10111612\/780_0675.00_54_34_13.Still011-1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-21036\" class=\"size-large wp-image-21036\" src=\"https:\/\/img.us.news.samsung.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/10111612\/780_0675.00_54_34_13.Still011-1-950x534.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"950\" height=\"534\" srcset=\"https:\/\/img.us.news.samsung.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/14123127\/780_0675.00_54_34_13.Still011-1-950x534.jpg 950w, https:\/\/img.us.news.samsung.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/14123127\/780_0675.00_54_34_13.Still011-1-600x338.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 950px) 100vw, 950px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-21036\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Boys &amp; Girls Club members utilize Samsung donated tablets to follow the DIY STEM activity instructions for each project.<\/p><\/div>\n<hr \/>\n<p>Some of Grutza\u2019s star students have taken such an interest in the STEM-focused activities involving robotics, energy and electricity, engineering design, food chemistry, aeronautics and the science of sports that they have now become student teachers in her classroom, helping the younger Club members learn.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen I help a student with things that I teach, it feels good to me,\u201d explained Gavin U., a DIY STEM student teacher at the Club. \u201cIt makes me feel happy that they\u2019re learning new things.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Grutza says as a result of the increased exposure to STEM subjects some of her students have already expressed ambitions to become scientists in the future.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAt Samsung, we are committed to inspiring youth\u2019s interest in STEM and enriching their lives in a way that makes a real impact on our youth as they look to their futures,\u201d said <strong>Ann Woo, Senior Director of Corporate Citizenship, Samsung Electronics America<\/strong>. \u201cWe share Boys &amp; Girls Clubs\u2019 same passion and dedication to helping children realize their dreams and explore future careers in STEM fields.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>DIY STEM engages Club youth ages 9 to 12 in different elements of STEM each week.
