A Wider Variety of Recycled Materials<\/a> in More Components<\/u><\/strong><\/h5>\n

Earlier this year, Samsung<\/a> expanded its innovative use of recycled materials in product design<\/a> with the Galaxy S23 series<\/a>, introducing new materials to more components. The Galaxy Z Flip5 and Z Fold5<\/a> advance these efforts, featuring a wider variety of recycled materials<\/a>[1]<\/a> in more internal and external components than previous Galaxy Z series smartphones<\/a>. The newest foldable smartphones<\/a> incorporate pre-consumer recycled aluminum and post-consumer recycled plastic sourced from discarded fishing nets, water barrels and PET bottles<\/a>. They also scale the use of Corning\u00ae Gorilla\u00ae Glass Victus\u00ae 2, which contains an average of 22% pre-consumer recycled glass content.<\/p>\n

Not only did Samsung<\/a> add more types of recycled materials<\/a> used in each device, but the company also more than doubled the amount of device components that use a minimum of 10% post-consumer recycled plastic or pre-consumer recycled glass, or an average of 22% pre-consumer recycled glass. Both the Galaxy Z Flip5 and Z Fold5<\/a>[2]<\/a> use recycled materials in 15 device components, an increase from six internal components in the Galaxy Z Flip4 and Z Fold4.<\/a><\/p>\n

When it comes to packaging, Samsung<\/a> continues to advance its efforts<\/a> to reduce the presence of single-use plastic. That\u2019s why the paper for the packaging box[3]<\/a> is made using 100% recycled material.[4]<\/a> The company also switched to recycled paper material for the front and back cover protector.<\/p>\n

A Device Lifecycle<\/a> That Lasts Longer<\/u><\/strong><\/h5>\n

The Galaxy Z Flip5 and Z Fold5<\/a> continue Samsung\u2019s work<\/a> to optimize the longevity and improve the upgradability of its smartphones<\/a>. Each device comes with five years of security updates<\/a> and four generations of OS upgrades, helping to extend the product lifecycle.<\/p>\n

As a result, the Galaxy community<\/a> can reliably enjoy their devices for a longer period of time, helping them to make eco-conscious choices<\/a> in their daily lives.<\/p>\n

The scrap metal is re-melted, filtered for impurities and then recycled to make parts within Samsung\u2019s manufacturing process. There is also pre-consumer recycled glass sourced from discarded glass waste generated as a byproduct of glass manufacturing. This glass waste is crushed into cullet and then used as a component in the Corning\u00ae Gorilla\u00ae Glass Victus\u00ae 2 manufacturing process.<\/h6>\n
