As we celebrate the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency<\/a>\u2019s (EPA) ENERGY STAR Day<\/strong><\/a> on October 9 and Energy Awareness Month<\/strong> throughout October, Samsung Electronics America<\/strong> is proud to spotlight two significant milestones that reflect our unwavering commitment to sustainability<\/a>. From energy-efficient operations to greener transportation methods, Samsung continues to lead by example in reducing our environmental impact. Our Logan, Utah facility recently earned the EPA\u2019s ENERGY STAR Challenge for Industry<\/a> recognition, and we\u2019ve also joined the EPA\u2019s SmartWay\u00ae Transport Partnership<\/a>, both reflecting our dedication to creating a more sustainable future.<\/p>\n

Leading by Example: EPA Recognition for Energy Efficiency at Logan, Utah Facility<\/strong><\/h5>\n

In a major achievement aligned with the spirit of Energy Awareness Month, the Prismview – A Samsung Electronics Company commercial display manufacturing facility based in Logan, Utah, was recognized by the EPA for reducing its energy intensity by 10% in just one year, earning the prestigious ENERGY STAR Challenge for Industry designation. This challenge encourages industrial sites worldwide to reduce their energy intensity by 10% over five years. Samsung\u2019s Logan site accomplished this goal far ahead of schedule, thanks to the efforts of our Workplace Operations and Facility Management teams, who developed and implemented energy demand mitigation strategies across our enterprise.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>

This is Samsung Electronics America\u2019s first recognition for an industrial site, making it a noteworthy milestone in our sustainability journey. It builds on Samsung\u2019s long-standing partnership with the EPA\u2019s ENERGY STAR<\/a> program, where we are already the only company with a Partner of the Year Sustained Excellence<\/a> designation in both the Product Brand Owner and Commercial Buildings Energy Management categories. This latest achievement further extends our leadership in manufacturing operations and strong support of the ENERGY STAR program.<\/p>\n

Mark Newton<\/strong><\/a>, Head of Corporate Sustainability at Samsung Electronics America, reflected on the achievement, \u201cENERGY STAR Day and Energy Awareness Month offer us a unique opportunity to mark the progress we\u2019ve made in energy efficiency<\/a>. The recognition of our Logan facility highlights how we are bringing our commitment to sustainability into every aspect of our operations, including product energy use, commercial operations and manufacturing sites. This milestone is not only a testament to our team\u2019s dedication but also a call to action for others in the industry to prioritize energy efficiency as a key driver of sustainable growth across their entire value chain.\u201d<\/p>\n

Expanding Our Sustainability Efforts: Joining the SmartWay\u00ae Transport Partnership<\/strong><\/h5>\n

In addition to our focus on energy-efficient manufacturing, Samsung has made strides in tracking emissions of our logistics operations. In August 2024, we joined the EPA\u2019s SmartWay Transport Partnership, a collaboration between the EPA and industry to improve the environmental and energy efficiency of goods movement supply chains.<\/p>\n

According to the EPA<\/a>, the U.S. transportation system moves over 51 million tons of freight daily, contributing significantly to global carbon emissions. Freight emissions are projected to surpass those from passenger vehicles by 2050. The SmartWay program was created to help companies like Samsung and their logistics partners optimize their shipping operations, reducing fuel consumption, emissions, and costs. By submitting annual carbon tracking data and utilizing SmartWay-approved carriers, Samsung is committed to lowering the carbon footprint of its freight operations.<\/p>\n

SmartWay provides standardized tools and methods to benchmark and improve supply chain performance. By participating, Samsung is not only reducing its environmental impact but also demonstrating corporate leadership in sustainability.<\/p>\n
