Each summer, Samsung Electronics America welcomes a cohort of interns into a fast-paced, immersive experience designed to jumpstart their careers. And while they spend much of their time learning from teams across engineering, marketing, and corporate strategy, Samsung\u2019s <\/strong>Intern Day of Service<\/strong><\/a> gives them something just as valuable: the chance to step outside the office and into the communities they\u2019re part of.<\/p>\n

This year, 41 Samsung interns across the country volunteered with 8 different organizations rooted in strengthening their local neighborhoods \u2013 from public parks and urban forests to farms fostering equitable access to food and green spaces. Together, they rolled up their sleeves, braved the summer heat, and gave back in meaningful ways that left a lasting impression on both the communities served and themselves.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>

In Texas, interns spent the day at Kaleidoscope Park<\/strong><\/a> in Frisco, a dynamic space designed to bring people together through year-round art, music, and cultural programming \u2013 from concerts and markets to wellness activities and dance performances. To make this event extra special, the group picked out a tree in the park, where a Samsung-branded plaque will be added to honor the team\u2019s impact and support.<\/p>\n

As a Data Analysis Intern, Mobile eXperience, Eric McGonagle<\/strong> was struck by how much the park\u2019s events unite people of all backgrounds, creating an inclusive environment for both recreation and reflection. \u201cKaleidoscope Park fosters community by bringing people of different backgrounds together to support each other through fun activities and concerts,\u201d he said. \u201cIt highlights diverse cultures and recognizes groups like veterans and teachers, which I found incredibly moving.\u201d Eric also reflected on his encounter with Cara, the park\u2019s Director of Development & Relationships, whose passion for the space inspired him. \u201cShe shared profound stories about the park\u2019s mission. It reminded me that there\u2019s always room to explore the outdoors and build meaningful interactions.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\n\t\t\"Careers\"\n\t\t<\/a>\n\t<\/div>\n

At City Green<\/strong><\/a> in Clifton, New Jersey, interns got their hands dirty on the farm while learning about the organization\u2019s mission to support equitable access to whole foods and green spaces. The nonprofit not only operates an urban farm so that residents have access to fresh produce, but also provides summer camps, gardening workshops, volunteer initiatives, and community events to educate and empower local residents.<\/p>\n

Lily McAmis<\/strong>, Business Analytics Intern, Digital Appliances, was impressed by how many people rallied behind City Green\u2019s vision. \u201cOur group was joined by countless volunteers of all ages, all working toward the common goal of serving their community,\u201d she shared. \u201cSeeing how much impact local, community-based efforts like City Green can have is something that will stick with me, and getting to volunteer alongside the other interns made the experience even more meaningful.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>

Meanwhile, on the West Coast, interns partnered with Our City Forest<\/strong><\/a> in San Jose, California. As Silicon Valley\u2019s leading nonprofit for urban forestry and environmental education, the organization works to cultivate a healthier urban ecosystem through efforts from urban tree planting to lawn conversions.<\/p>\n

Software Development Engineering Intern, e-Commerce, Sanay Bordia <\/strong>discovered just how much care and strategy goes into maintaining green spaces. \u201cFrom how soil is harvested to how delicately the plants need to be handled, I learned many intricacies of planting,\u201d he said. \u201cThe work I did reminded me that small, consistent efforts \u2013 like planting one shrub at a time \u2013 can lead to something much bigger.\u201d He was equally inspired by the dedication of the Our City Forest team. \u201cTheir energy was contagious and motivated all of us to have fun, learn, and work hard.\u201d<\/p>\n

For Samsung interns, their Day of Service wasn\u2019t just about giving back \u2013 it was a chance to connect with their communities, each other, and the causes they care about most.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>
