The collection comes as the UK hosts its first coronation in almost 70 years, dating back to the Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II in 1953. While Queen Elizabeth II was well known for her love of corgis, the royal family has a long history with a variety of breeds for their companionship and loyalty, including the aptly named King Charles spaniel stemming from Charles I’s 17th century reign. In the early 19th century, Queen Victoria and Prince Albert commissioned Sir Edwin Landseer to paint Queen Victoria’s childhood companion, Dash the spaniel, as well as Eos the greyhound who accompanied Prince Albert from Germany. Queen Victoria was also known to favor dachshunds, collies and pugs, while King Edward VII was fond of terriers, and King George V counted terriers, labradors and other working breeds among his pets. The Samsung Art Store collection also features a Landseer piece depicting Princess Mary of Cambridge with Nelson, a beloved Newfoundland.
“The Samsung Art Store is proud to connect millions of Frame TV owners with a variety of art and artists, from classic to contemporary, and both legacy and emerging artists,” said Daria Greene, Global Curator at the Samsung Art Store. “We are honored to help extend the reach of the Royal Collection through Samsung’s unparalleled digital art experience – especially at this historic moment and with a collection that celebrates the love for pets that so many families share.”

The Royal Collection is among the largest and most important art collections in the world, and one of the last great European royal collections to remain intact. It comprises almost all aspects of the fine and decorative arts, and is spread among some 15 royal residences and former residences across the UK, most of which are regularly open to the public. The Royal Collection is held in trust by the Sovereign for his successors and the nation, and is not owned by The King as a private individual. Royal Collection Trust, a department of the Royal Household, is responsible for the care of the Royal Collection and manages the public opening of the official residences of The King through income generated from admissions and from associated commercial activities.
