Samsung Care Powers the Workforce of Tomorrow

Connecting Education to Innovation at Appleton Technical Academy

11/14/2025

At Samsung, innovation isn’t just in the products we create, it’s in the people who keep them running. With the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics projecting employment in the broad category of installation, maintenance, and repair occupations to grow faster than the average for all occupations from 2024 to 2034, with about 608,100 openings per year1, the need for skilled workers has never been more urgent.

That’s why Samsung Care is investing in the development of highly trained technicians and creating clear pathways from education to career, ensuring the next generation is ready for the growing demand in appliance service and repair. Interest in trade and vocational careers is growing, with nearly eight in ten2 Americans noticing more young people exploring these paths. The company is making long-term investments in technician development and partnerships with educational institutions, creating a robust talent pipeline that equips future technicians with the skills, hands-on experience and confidence they need to succeed.

Plugging Into the Future with Appleton Technical Academy

In partnership with Appleton Technical Academy (ATECH), Samsung has invested in the new Academy Bay lab, a dedicated space powered by Samsung SmartThings technology. This initiative in significant as the first of its kind for this type of investment, providing students with hands-on opportunities to explore Samsung smart appliances, connected systems and energy-efficient technologies in a collaborative, real-world environment. The lab will also support ATECH’s “Plugging Into the Future” Smart Home Technology curriculum, giving students practical experience with the latest in connected home innovation.

“At Samsung, we believe that the future of innovation lies not only in the technology we develop, but also in the skilled individuals who support our customers. Through our partnership with Appleton Technical Academy, we are empowering the next generation of technicians with the knowledge and hands-on experience they need to thrive in a rapidly evolving industry,” said Nick Webert, Executive Director of Samsung Customer Care. “By investing in education and workforce development, we are addressing the growing demand for skilled workers while also ensuring that our customers continue to receive the highest level of service and care now and in the future.”

The four-year high school pathway gives students foundational training in energy systems, smart-home automation, appliance repair and electrical systems:

  • Foundational learning: Students start by exploring smart home systems and energy technologies to understand how modern homes work.
  • Applied experience: Students gain practical skills in smart appliances, electrical systems, and home automation.
  • Problem-solving & career readiness: Advanced courses focus on troubleshooting, repair, and real-world applications, preparing students for certifications and careers in the field.

“With the welcome addition of Academy Bay in partnership with Samsung, ATECH has a unique lab space, the first of its kind in the nation, that contains appliances provided by Samsung that will support career pathways and opportunities for ATECH students to learn about and practice skills first-hand in Smart Home, Smart Appliances, Smart Energy, Smart Grid and Smart Service, said Paul Endter, Lead Teacher, Appleton Technical Academy.

Samsung’s investment in ATECH’s Academy Bay demonstrates a commitment to ensuring that the next generation of the workforce has the knowledge, the skills, and the training necessary to best navigate and enter the workforce for students who are seeking careers in consumer electronics and service,” Endter added.

By connecting students to practical skills and career opportunities, Samsung is helping inspire the next generation of technicians while supporting local communities—preparing young people for meaningful careers in home technology today and tomorrow. Students who complete the program will earn credits towards an industry-recognized certification, technical diploma or associate’s degree.

Continued Investment in Future-Ready Technician Excellence

At Samsung Care, our service model is anchored in one promise: when our customers’ devices encounter a problem, we’ll fix them fast, fix them right and do it with care. Meeting that promise requires technicians ready for the complexity of connected homes, IoT-enabled appliances and AI-driven diagnostics.

Emerging technologies like artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning are transforming how we live and work—and Samsung is investing in education to keep pace. Through certification pathways, advanced training, and hands-on labs, technicians gain the skills needed to handle today’s repairs and tomorrow’s innovations. At the Samsung Technical Training Center, service professionals receive in-depth instruction on the latest products and AI-driven systems, while programs like the Samsung Skills Competition celebrate top talent and encourage continuous learning.

Together, these initiatives strengthen a workforce that blends technical expertise with a human touch. They also allow Samsung to build a strong, future-ready talent pipeline, ensuring the next generation of technicians is equipped to power the connected-home era.

From hands-on training to career pathways, Samsung’s investments in education and workforce development are shaping the technicians—and the innovation—of tomorrow.
