This holiday season, Samsung Electronics America is spotlighting the ingenuity, creativity and community impact of small businesses nationwide. Technology is increasingly central to engaging customers and evolving day-to-day operations in today’s fast paced world. As a result, more business are adopting digital signage and real-time software tools, such as the Visual eXperience Transformation (VXT) content management system (CMS), to keep information current, showcase vibrant visuals and enhance the customer experience.
The importance of supporting small businesses
According to the U.S. Small Business Administration Office of Advocacy’s 2025 report, the United States is home to 36.2 million small businesses that employ nearly half of the private-sector workforce. These businesses generate roughly nine out of every 10 net new jobs, making them essential to both local and national economic growth. The holiday season brings their importance into focus, encouraging Americans to shop and dine locally and reinvest money back into their communities. As consumers turn to neighborhood establishments, many small businesses are finding thoughtful ways to make each visit more memorable and enjoyable — a spirit reflected in the experiences of Blue Fish Restaurant & Oyster Bar and Soban Korean Eatery.
“Small businesses create jobs, strengthen local economies and shape the character of our communities,” said Heather Gramcko, Executive Director of Solutions & Services, Samsung Electronics America. “The holiday season is a reminder of how much they contribute, not only through the goods and services they provide, but through the connections they build. To support those connections, VXT provides owners seamless control over their displays, helping them deliver timely content that captivates customers and drives ongoing growth.”
Blue Fish Restaurant & Oyster Bar introduces a fresh approach to menu boards
Blue Fish Restaurant & Oyster Bar in Jacksonville, Florida, is known for its lively raw bar and regularly rotating selection of fresh oysters. For years, the team relied on a handwritten chalkboard to share daily offerings, a charming method that became increasingly difficult to manage as the restaurant gained popularity. Staff often had to manually update the board during peak hours, which led to crossed-out items, missed changes and limited ability to highlight tasting notes, sourcing details or recommended pairings.
To create a more dynamic experience, the restaurant replaced the chalkboard with a Samsung 43″ 4K UHD Pro TV, powered by Samsung VXT. Using the content creation tools in VXT Canvas, manager Samuel Green designed visually engaging menus that present each oyster variety with sourcing details, tasting notes and wine pairings.
“Since VXT is cloud-based, I can update directly from my phone or from our back office,” said Samuel Green. “I can grab a computer anywhere and update it in real time as opposed to being out in the front updating the board manually.”
In addition to ensuring the menu remains accurate throughout the day, Green uses the display to highlight kitchen features, employee profiles and birthday messages, creating a more vibrant atmosphere for guests. The transformation has made Blue Fish a standout example of how Samsung VXT can simplify daily operations, support staff and elevate guest experiences.
Soban Korean Eatery delivers a taste of innovation and culture
Soban Korean Eatery in Hales Corners, Wisconsin, was founded by husband-and-wife owners Solki Lee and Hyelim Song, who wanted to introduce Korean cuisine to their community in a way that felt both approachable and exciting. As first-time restaurateurs, they needed menu displays that were clear, reliable and easy for guests to understand, especially since many dishes would be new to customers. They recognized that printed signage would not offer the flexibility to accommodate evolving menu updates, which led them to pursue a digital solution they could manage on their own without outside design or IT support. They found their solution in four Samsung QMC Series 43″ Commercial Displays paired with VXT.
“It was all very plug-and-play,” said Solki Lee, Co-Owner, Soban Korean Eatery. “The displays have Wi-Fi, and the software is already included. We simply connected and started building our content. If we were doing this on paper, every change would take weeks. When you have Samsung VXT, it’s instant.”
Today, these displays function as digital menus, showcasing each dish with vivid images and clear descriptions, which help guests order quickly and confidently. With VXT’s templates, image library and browser-based tools, the team can update ingredients, allergen info, seasonal items and special promotions from any device to keep the menu current with customer feedback and sales trends. The displays remain visible even after hours and attract community members who stop to learn about the menu. Samsung technology has become essential to Soban’s operations, providing the owners with a solid foundation as they explore expansion opportunities.
