Samsung Elevates Range Experiences With the Precision Knobs
Samsung’s new knobs add a simple ‘pinching’ motion to the standard ‘push and turn’ knob mechanism, helping to prevent unintended range activation

As a global pioneer in the digital appliance technology, Samsung Electronics has exceeded what is expected of the capabilities, performance and safety of the modern home and kitchen. Small changes can have a big impact and earlier this year, Samsung introduced its latest innovation, the first ever built-in Precision Knobs for ranges.
Samsung introduced its Precision Knobs to its entire line of Bespoke Slide-In electric and gas ranges, which were launched in the United States and Canada in earlier this year. And on its most premium Bespoke Slide-In electric and gas ranges, Samsung introduced Illuminated Precision Knobs1 to give consumers a beautiful visual cue when the knobs are activated. These industry’s first built-in three step knobs are designed to reinforce safety measures to prevent unintentional activations providing peace of mind to consumers.
The Precision Knob operates with three simple steps: pinch, push, and turn. This three-step mechanism includes an extra pin that retracts only when the knob is pinched from both sides, where fingers normally touch. Without pinching, the pin stays in place, locking the knob from turning. After pinching, users can push and turn just as before. It’s a simple change that makes a big difference. This extra step prevents the risk of accidental activation of the cooktop, especially by children or pets, while still keeping it easy to use, without the need for extra thinking or large movements.
In addition, as the name suggests, the Illuminated Precision Knobs light up when activated, which is another meaningful safety feature. With intuitive visual feedback about which burner is activated, users can know if a range is on. This design element enables users to effortlessly check if the cooktops are activated at a glance even from a distance.
Wi-fi connected ranges also have SmartThings, which adds an extra layer of safety by alerting consumers when the cooktop is on, even when they are away from home. Once the “Cooktop on alert” is enabled on the SmartThings app, it will notify the user when the first cooktop is turned on while all the cooktops of the range are turned off. Moreover consumers can monitor the operating status and power level settings of the cooktop right from their phone, enabling them to double check whether the cooktop is left on.
Since launch, the ranges equipped with the Illuminated Precision Knobs have garnered an average rating of 4.9 out of 5 stars2 on Samsung US website, with reviews emphasizing the benefits of the new added safety features:
- “The feature we love are the knobs, they have an extra safety which is not difficult to use. It helps prevent turning on gas on accident.” (username: peterbtime)
- “Our favorite feature has to be the precision knobs, because we have two young girls in the house and not having to worry about one of them playing with the knobs and starting the stove on is a huge plus.” (username: Legacykill3r)
- “A parent of 2 toddlers, by far my favorite feature is the burner knobs. There’s a button on both sides of the knob you must press them push and turn to light the burner. My kids used to be able to push and turn our old range on. A parent must of thought of that feature for sure.” (username: Mohadi103)
