Samsung Employees Give Back to Help U.S. Communities Thrive in Tough Times

11/3/2020

Samsung Electronics America employees virtually united on October 2nd to kick-off our Samsung Gives Month of Service, our employee community service campaign. As the tenth company-wide volunteer effort comes to a close, we are reflecting on the ways we reimagined a single day of giving back to a month-long initiative and looking for additional ways to make a difference as part of our continued drive for greater co-prosperity.

Month of Service - Employees

Employees and their families were encouraged to participate in the Month of Service activities!

We provided our employees with the flexibility to pursue company-arranged virtual opportunities or other service activities of their choice for our first-ever Month of Service. And they participated in a multitude of ways that made us proud. Across the country, Samsung employees donated over 1000 hours of service to a diverse group of nonprofit partners.

From Hackensack Riverkeeper’s environmental advocacy program to clean up our local neighborhoods to Covenant House of New Jersey’s coalition for the homeless initiative to pack cold care kits to Junior Achievement’s education-based initiatives to help aspiring young entrepreneurs, our fellow colleagues stepped up to meet the needs of their own communities. Even in the era of social distancing brought on by the pandemic, which has only intensified the need for support, Samsung employees forged ahead to give back.

The virtual format was a big hit with employees.

Feedback from partner charities and non-profit organizations includes:

“Thank you so much for the opportunity to partner! The mentorship experience your volunteers provided to our area K-12 students was incredible and very much appreciated. I’ve received positive feedback from the teachers whose students participated. The skills and personal experiences of the Samsung volunteers truly demonstrated the professionalism of the team.  It was a pleasure to work with you and we look forward to the opportunity to continue to partner with Samsung in the future.” – Maria V. Ramos, Vice President of Operations, Junior Achievement of Chicago

“We were thrilled to have Samsung’s help for our annual Thank-a-thon to show our gratitude to the life-saving volunteer crisis counselors who make The Trevor Project’s work possible. Thank you to everyone who joined us for bringing a positive attitude and being open to sharing how meaningful support shaped your own experiences. We look forward to continuing our partnership with Samsung to support LGBTQIA+ youth in crisis.” – Sofi Goode, Corporate Development Associate, The Trevor Project

Month of Service - Employees

Participants of all ages were able to get involved.

And our colleagues had this to say about their volunteer experience:

“The Only Make Believe foundation’s card design activity for children living with chronic illness and disabilities not only provided awareness for myself and my kids, but was also a nice community activity for my Samsung colleagues and I to rally together around a great cause. Within the breakout group, we enjoyed a brainstorming session, sharing ideas on what could bring a little joy to the children in hospitals that are fighting illnesses. If the designed cards and characters were created by a group of volunteers with the intent of bringing happiness, you can only hope that the child patient who receives them experiences that same level joy from the creation.” – Owen Amurao, Retail Execution Senior Manager, Home Entertainment Retail Operations, Samsung Electronics America

Samsung employees have donated a total of more than 145,000 hours of service to organizations nationwide since the campaign’s inception in October 2014. But the volunteer efforts won’t stop at the end of this month. Samsung employees are encouraged to continue to help their local communities thrive during this critical moment. No matter how big or small the effort, let’s get involved in building a brighter tomorrow.
