Samsung Interns Coast to Coast

7/9/2019

By Monica Gu, Corporate Communications Intern Summer 2019

One of the most notable parts of Samsung Electronics is its global presence: Samsung is everywhere in the U.S. On orientation day, I had the fortune of spending my first day with not only the interns who will be here with me in the tristate area, but also with those who will be working at our offices across the country. Here’s a glimpse into our daily lives from different locations and different roles, yet the same appreciation for where we work.

Jane Song is an intern for the Corporate Citizenship Department

Jane Song is working with Samsung’s Corporate Citizenship department. She works out of Ridgefield Park, NJ.

The East Coast wakes up first! Jane is a rising senior at Emory University and the Corporate Citizenship Intern in Ridgefield Park, New Jersey. A typical day for her includes:

  • Creating social media content and drafting communications.
  • Contributing ideas and conducting research on outreach methods for getting schools and teachers from underrepresented states enrolled in our national STEM contest, Samsung Solve for Tomorrow.
  • Curating content for the Solve for Tomorrow alumni community on social media.
  • Having a minor crisis in the cafeteria over what counts as a side for her meal, given the abundance of food options.

Of her experience so far, Jane says, “The good thing about this environment is that there’s a lot of opportunities for stimulus and to ask questions, which indirectly helps me get into a more productive mindset!”

Tony Kim – Marketing Finance Intern

Tony Kim works in Marketing Finance out of the Samsung 837 office in New York City.

New York, NY – Tony Kim, Marketing Finance

Just across the river, our New York City office, better known as Samsung 837 located in the city’s famed Meatpacking district, is also up and ready to start the day. Tony is a rising senior at NYU’s Stern School of Business and working with Samsung’s Marketing Finance team. A typical day for him includes:

  • Attending meetings with creative teams executing campaigns that showcase the company’s innovative technology.
  • Performing budget tasks and coordinating closely with outside vendors.
  • Stepping out in the Meatpacking District for lunch—and admiring its distinct atmosphere, cultivated by all the tech and fashion companies nearby!

Of his experience so far, Tony says, “My experience at Samsung has been rewarding so far—I’ve been working on interesting projects and my manager has made sure I’ve had access to every opportunity to learn. I’m looking forward to the rest of my internship!”

Joseph Wise – Reverse Logistics

Joseph Wise works with the Reverse Logistics team in Plano, TX.

Plano, TX – Joseph Wise, Reverse Logistics

An hour later, Texas follows suit. Joseph is a rising senior at Brigham Young University and the Reverse Logistics Intern in Plano, Texas. A typical day for him includes:

  • Attending team meetings with the Reverse Logistics Team every morning to review daily progress and deliverables.
  • Grabbing some delicious Asada tacos nearby to share with the team!
  • Visiting local warehouses to observe operations and look for ways to maximize process efficiencies.

Of his experience so far, Joseph says, “The mentorship I’m getting at Samsung is unparalleled. Beyond simply giving instruction on how a job is to be done, my manager also points out best practices specific to Samsung and teaches me how to be efficient with my time. I’m confident that I am getting the most out of my internship experience because of the daily feedback and mentorship I receive.”

Sonal Tyagi works in Product Management in the Bellevue, WA office.

Finally, the West Coast rises. Sonal is a rising junior at Cornell University and a Product Management Intern in Bellevue, Washington. A typical day for her includes:

    • Beginning her day by prepping for meetings, responding to emails, and working on her project to revamp the Samsung Financing page on Samsung.com.
    • Later, grabbing lunch with other members of the Product Management team.
    • Meeting someone new, either to simply introduce herself or to speak with them about their relevant area of expertise for her project.

Of her experience so far, Sonal says, “These past few workdays, I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my time at Samsung and appreciate the fact that I have been challenged with an in-depth, useful project right from the start. The fact that I have already learned so much about both product management and how Samsung functions internally speaks volumes to all that I will gain in the upcoming weeks of my internship.”

These are only a few of the various offices and internship roles that Samsung has across the United States and around the world. Despite different locations and different roles, we’re all doing important and interesting work, and we’re all equally excited to be part of such a far-reaching company.
