SAMSUNG Showcases Solutions for Smart, Dynamic and Connected Retail Environments at NRF 2015
1/11/2015
New York – January 11, 2015 – Samsung Electronics America, Inc. is presenting its vision for an immersive and interactive retail experience at NRF 2015, highlighting a range of co-created solutions suited for every retail environment, from the storefront to the showroom to the loading dock, warehouse and back office. Combining seamlessly with a diverse group of industry partners, Samsung smart signage displays, Galaxy tablets, smartphones and wearables, multifunction printers and more will be shown in a number of real-world retail settings at booth #600 at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center from January 11-13.
“With a collaborative approach to innovation, Samsung is in a unique position to leverage our vertical market knowledge and breadth of technology to create smarter, more dynamic and connected retail environments, helping retailers close the loop between marketing spending and consumer purchases,” said Ted Brodheim, Vice President of Vertical Business at Samsung’s Enterprise Business Division. “Partnering with a number of industry leaders, our technology-driven solutions enable innovation at every point in the retail setting to change the way retailers inform, engage and drive sales to enhance the in-store shopping experience for customers and maximize operational efficiency.”
The innovative solutions on display at the Samsung booth highlight opportunities to drive seamless workflows, increase mobility and unlock new possibilities throughout the retail environment, including:
The Storefront: Attracting Customers, Measuring Opportunity
Storefronts offer invaluable real estate for attracting new customers and projecting the brand, but are too often static presentations that lack engagement and responsiveness. At NRF, Samsung is presenting an intelligent digital storefront solution combining its new high brightness smart signage displays and analytics from partner Quividi.
Leveraging Samsung’s OMD Series displays and a simple video sensor, the solution uses Quividi‘s proprietary image sensing technology to count actual viewers and overall opportunities to see (OTS), while accurately measuring attention times and dwell times and estimating the gender and age distributions of a retailer’s audience. This real-time analysis can also be used to target content in order to better engage shoppers.
Designed to deliver consistently brilliant performance, the Samsung OMD Series LED-lit LCD displays are rated at up to 2,500 nits brightness to grab attention even in high ambient light environments, such as retail storefront windows. Powered by the next-generation Samsung Smart Signage Platform, these displays offer a simple, smart and visually attractive way for businesses to showcase content and attract customers, so that no matter the surroundings their messages will come across clear and bright.
The Showroom: Engaging, Informing and Enhancing Interactions
Showcasing a range of interactive display and Point of Sale (POS) solutions, Samsung will demonstrate how retailers can leverage technology to create more interactivity in the showroom to increase customer engagement and drive sales.
In partnership with ComQi and Freshwater, Samsung is demonstrating an assistive selling kiosk utilizing RFID to instantly deliver dynamic product information and suggested accessories to shoppers, with or without the assistance of a salesperson. This solution utilizes the Samsung DB22D, a 21.5-inch LED commercial display.
Featuring its Galaxy tablet lineup, including the Galaxy Tab® S, Samsung will also demonstrate opportunities for increased mobility in the showroom. Samsung is highlighting partnerships with several mobile payment solution providers, including eMobilePOS, PowaPOS and PowaTag, and Verifone (see partnership announcement), which allow retailers to ring up transactions, track sales and view analytics all on a Galaxy tablet device. These solutions keep sales staff mobile and able to address the needs of customers and management from anywhere on the showroom floor.
The Loading Dock and Warehouse: Mobility and Connectivity for Rugged Environments
Samsung will also exhibit the Galaxy Tab® Active, its first tablet built specifically for in-field use. Featuring a ruggedized, portable design, the device is ideal for those working in challenging retail environments including the loading dock and warehouse. With IP67 dust and water resistant certification, the Galaxy Tab Active comes with a bundled protective case which permits it to endure drops of up to four feet. The Samsung Knox enterprise security platform is also available on the latest Galaxy smartphones and tablets, ensuring business and customer information is safely contained.
Through partnerships with eMobilePOS, Honeywell, Infinite Peripherals and KOAMTAC, Samsung is also able to add inventory management and remote charging capabilities to its Galaxy mobile devices. For example, KOAMTAC‘s barcode and RFID readers integrate seamlessly with the Galaxy S5 smartphone to enable easy inventory tracking and other auto identification applications, or via Bluetooth with Galaxy tablets.
Samsung’s innovative lineup of wearables, including the Galaxy Gear™ S and Gear™ Fit, also enable field-based workers to stay connected, quickly view alerts and send dispatches to enhance workflows.
The Back Office and Corporate: Driving Operational Efficiency
In addition to display and mobility products, Samsung offers a number of solutions that help retailers manage staff and inventory. This includes a mobile manager that enables managers to spend more time on the sales floor and less time in the office by providing real-time sales, inventory and personnel management and communication with headquarters and other internal teams. To track staff on the showroom floor, Samsung is demonstrating an asset management platform from Timeforge that allows retailers to monitor hot and cold spots in the store, and analyze item placement and promotions.
Bringing a fresh look to business, Samsung will showcase its latest smartphones, including the Galaxy Note® 4 and Galaxy Note®Edge, which feature the enhanced S Pen for note-taking and productivity and advanced security with Samsung Knox. Samsung’s award-winning line of printers and MFPs will also be on display, including the world’s first Android-powered printers, which provide an intuitive, customizable user interface for streamlining workflows and business productivity.
