Yoon Lee, Senior Vice President at Samsung Electronics America, presented the company’s new products at its CES Press Conference in Las Vegas on Monday, Jan. 7, 2019. Samsung unveiled connected and intelligent devices across the home appliance, home entertainment, mobile computing, automotive, and robotics categories as part of its vision for Connected Living.

When Samsung took the stage at CES in 2018, we announced a bold vision for Connected Living that involves taking the half a billion devices we sell every year and making them connected and intelligent.

Over the course of 2018, we took important steps to make that vision a reality: first, we introduced a new, consolidated SmartThings app that unites all Samsung IoT platforms including Samsung Connect, Smart Home, Smart View and more. At the same time, we doubled the number of SmartThings-compatible devices, including products from Amazon, Google, Plume, and Ring.

Speaking at CES 2019 earlier this month, my Samsung colleagues and I explained how we’re taking our vision for Connected Living a step further in 2019 thanks to advancements in groundbreaking technologies like 5G and AI – innovations that allow for unprecedented connectivity and enable even more seamless experiences across devices and platforms.

By leveraging our unmatched expertise and depth across consumer technology and IoT, Samsung will for the first time have the ability make people’s lives – or their “user experience” – easier through the creation of a single, ubiquitous, seamless and intelligent connected experience for end users.

With its high speed, data capacity and ultra-low latency, 5G is the connective tissue that holds it all together, allowing us to connect and communicate in ways we could only dream of.

And 5G is here today: The building blocks are being deployed across the country that will quicken the pace and the thinking around transformative 5G use cases.

But while IoT and 5G are revolutionizing how we connect, AI is revolutionizing what our connected devices do. AI is integral to our vision of the future, because it simplifies a complex world, letting customers do more of what they love. And it will dominate technology in 2019.

According to CTA’s 2018 Consumer Sentiment survey, half of respondents feel devices and services powered by AI technologies are already making a meaningful impact on daily lives or will within the next year. Meanwhile, nearly two-thirds are comfortable with AI having a noticeable impact on daily life. Clearly, consumers are not only getting more comfortable with AI, they are also expecting it to be built into the products and services they like to use.

At Samsung, we believe artificial intelligence should enhance user experience by making life simpler, easier, and better. We let it take care of the little things, and help with the big things, so customers can focus on the things that matter most to them. Throughout your home, across your office, in your car, and in your pocket, we’re going beyond answering questions and buying products, so you can live a smarter, connected life.

To that end, Bixby has evolved into a scalable, open AI platform. In this coming year, we’ll bring Bixby to more products and debut new partners like Google and iHeartRadio, giving people more ways to use intelligence to help them throughout the day. We’re also expanding beyond the cloud to the edge and equipping more products with on-device AI.

For fifty years, Samsung has entered one consumer electronics category after another with the same result – extreme success. Today, Samsung leads global market share in smartphones, TVs and semiconductors. In the U.S, we’re leading the market in refrigerators and front-load washers.

While Samsung will always be defined by our legacy of incredible products, today, our true strength lies in the strength and breadth of that portfolio: only Samsung can connect AI services across our portfolio, so people can experience its full potential at scale.

In 2019 our customers will start to see how our vision is coming to life in the form of more AI for consumers, new applications of AI, new ways to make AI do more and new devices that bring AI to the center of the connected life that will be the hallmark of the Second Digital Revolution.
