Samsung Launches New WAD Interactive Display as Part of Teacher Appreciation Week

During the week-long celebration, educators will also enjoy up to $600 off select Samsung monitors and up to 25 percent off select displays

5/2/2024

From May 6-10, school communities throughout the United States will celebrate Teacher Appreciation Week—a week dedicated to thanking educators for their hard work in inspiring and shaping the young minds of tomorrow. Samsung would like to take this opportunity to recognize all educators for their commitment to instilling students with the knowledge and skills necessary for future success. To show our gratitude, Samsung is offering new classroom technology, professional development resources and exclusive savings on products to enhance the classroom experience.

Introducing the Google EDLA-certified “WAD” Interactive Display

Available now, the Interactive Display (model name: WAD) is Samsung’s first Google Enterprise Devices Licensing Agreement (EDLA)-certified classroom display. Powered by the Android™ 13 operating system, the Interactive Display WAD series—available in 65-, 75- and 86-inch models—provides an intuitive and engaging experience that eliminates the learning curve of new instructional tools for teachers and students alike.

As a Google EDLA-certified product, the Interactive Display WAD series has built-in support for popular Google services, including Google Classroom and Drive, allowing teachers to seamlessly integrate the display and familiar software tools into their classrooms. Pre-installed apps, like YouTube and Google Chrome, and downloadable access to additional educational apps through the Google Play Store open new possibilities for lesson planning and creative learning.

“My wife teaches fourth grade, and I have seen first-hand how hard our educators work to overcome growing challenges as they guide the minds of tomorrow,” said David Phelps, Head of the Display Division, Samsung Electronics America. “Educators are facing rising expectations from parents, increasing class sizes and declining levels of student engagement. Classroom technologies like our new Interactive Display are designed to empower teachers to build upon their successful teaching practices while unlocking collaborative tools to deepen student connections, engagement and personalized learning.”

To enhance student collaboration and classroom engagement, the WAD series offers a natural writing experience with infrared (IR) touch and support for up to 40 simultaneous touchpoints. Teachers and students can wirelessly cast up to nine screens simultaneously for maximum productivity. This feature allows bidirectional content broadcasting between the display and connected devices to engage every student. The display includes a 3-in-1 USB-C port that simplifies connectivity and allows connected devices to charge at up to 65W, as well as HDMI output for easy content sharing.

School leaders can remotely monitor and control the displays using Samsung’s Device Management Solution (DMS). In an emergency, the DMS’ Advanced Messaging feature can distribute urgent communications across all classroom displays and public spaces to alert students, faculty and staff in real time.

  • Design Thinking Amplified—Making Global Change Accessible for All Students: Presented by Samsung Education Coach and author Dee Lanier, this session explores design thinking as a tool for tackling global challenges through the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals. Dee will discuss the Solve in Time framework, share student-led solutions and explain how to integrate design thinking into the classroom.
  • The Deets on Empowering Digital Citizens: As the school year comes to a close, students will be off on their own with their devices. Samsung Education Coach Shay Shakes will share how educators can guide their students on safe device usage. Participants will gain insights into age-appropriate resources, interactive tools and curriculum materials, equipping them to foster responsible online behavior among students while navigating the digital world safely and ethically.

Solve For Tomorrow asks teachers and students to create positive change

In the lead-up to Teacher Appreciation Week, Samsung held its 14th annual Solve For Tomorrow Competition. Each year, the competition challenges public school students in grades 6-12 to apply science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) skills to develop solutions to issues impacting their local communities.

On April 30th, Samsung announced this year’s National Winners—Brandywine High School from Wilmington, Del.; Hoover High School from Hoover, Ala.; and Princeton High School from Princeton, N.J. Each winning team received a prize package worth $100,000, while seven National Finalists were awarded $50,000 packages. To date, Solve for Tomorrow has awarded over $27 million in Samsung technology and classroom supplies to more than 4,000 public schools across the United States.

In addition to valuable prizes, Solve For Tomorrow offers a rewarding experience for the educators who motivate and guide their students through every step of the competition, from ideation and development to implementation and final presentations. Participating educators can participate in the Samsung Teacher Academy, an immersive week-long professional development program focused on STEM-centric teaching techniques and Problem-Based Learning. The Teacher Academy also offers teachers a community for networking and knowledge-sharing with like-minded peers from around the country.

Samsung would like to recognize the educators who led their student teams in this year’s competition. You are the true heart of Solve For Tomorrow and continue to inspire students to create positive change in the world.
