Boosting Consumers’ Energy Savings One Product at a Time
10/22/2019
Today, Samsung Electronics America joins the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to celebrate ENERGY STAR Day to raise awareness about the environmental benefits of using less energy to help protect the planet. According to the EPA, since 1992, ENERGY STAR and its partners, including Samsung, helped save American families and businesses nearly 4 trillion kilowatt-hours of electricity and achieved over 3 billion metric tons of greenhouse gas reductions, equivalent to the annual emissions of over 600 million cars.
Since 2009, Samsung’s product efficiency improvements have saved the equivalent of 243 million tons of CO2 associated with electricity use, on behalf of our customers.
“Limiting environmental impact and providing cost savings for customers are key reasons why Samsung works every day to be an industry leader in improving the energy efficiency of our products without sacrificing performance,” said Shane Higby, Vice President for Home Appliance Product Marketing at Samsung Electronics America.
Just last year, Samsung released 700 different ENERGY STAR-certified products, including refrigerators, washing machines, dryers, dishwashers, TVs, sound bars, displays and computers. Out of those, more than 150 are ENERGY STAR-certified appliances. Energy usage is particularly noticeable in the kitchen and laundry room, where home appliances are always in use and the benefits of efficiency can really add up for consumers.
For Samsung, ENERGY STAR is also a symbol of economic development and investing in the U.S. because at our state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Newberry, SC every washer produced is ENERGY STAR-certified. This includes innovative front load and top load machines introduced this year that not only save energy but deliver time savings, increased capacity, stronger performance and stylish design.
“We are pleased to partner with organizations like Samsung who demonstrate the benefits of energy efficiency every day,” said EPA’s Jill Vohr, Team Lead Consumer Marketing, ENERGY STAR Labeling Branch at the U.S. EPA. “By offering customers products that have earned the ENERGY STAR label, those customers can save today, save tomorrow, and save for good—for all the good things they want in life and for a healthier planet.”
To qualify to the latest ENERGY STAR specification for washers, Samsung models meet EPA guidelines to use, on average, approximately 25% less energy and 33% less water than required by minimum efficiency standards.
