Ridgefield Park, NJ – November 17, 2017 – Samsung Electronics America, Inc. today announced its collaboration with UnitedHealthcare and Qualcomm Life, a wholly owned subsidiary of Qualcomm Inc., to offer Samsung Gear Fit2 Pro and Samsung Gear Sport1 in the UnitedHealthcare Motion™ wellness program. UnitedHealthcare members can choose Gear Fit2 Pro or Gear Sport, along with a pair of Level Active Wireless headphones, to stay on top of their personal fitness and wellness goals and even earn more than $1,000 per year by meeting certain daily walking goals. The wearables feature a Samsung-developed custom app called F.I.T.2, which tracks frequency, intensity and tenacity of walking goals, as defined by UnitedHealthcare.
“The UnitedHealthcare Motion wellness program encourages and incentivizes members to stay active, which may lead to better health outcomes,” said Dr. David Rhew, chief medical officer and head of healthcare and fitness, Samsung Electronics America. “Samsung Gear Fit2 Pro and Gear Sport are excellent choices for members participating in this program. They are stylish and intelligent wearable devices that offer a broad range of tracking and measurement capabilities.”
Gear Fit2 Pro and Gear Sport are the latest additions to Samsung’s portfolio of wearable devices, and bring the following capabilities:
- Holistic Health and Fitness Tracking: Gear provides automatic activity detection for walking, running, cycling and a range of other dynamic activities. The F.I.T. app provides additional evidence-based guides and measurement of frequency, intensity and tenacity of daily walking performance. Gear also offers tools to track nutrition, sleep and fitness.
- Water Resistance and Swim Tracking: Devices are 5 ATM3 certified for water resistance and include Speedo’s latest swimming training app, Speedo On, to track swim lap count, lap time, stroke type and more.
- Improved Heart Rate Monitoring: Devices provide an option for continuous heart activity monitoring, giving a more accurate reading—whether at rest or on the go.
“UnitedHealthcare is committed to leveraging the latest technologies and digital resources to help all Americans achieve their health goals, which is why we pursued this collaboration with Samsung,” said Sam Ho, M.D., chief medical officer of UnitedHealthcare. “Consumers have told us they want wellness programs that provide flexibility and choice, so making available wearable devices from Samsung is an important step to meeting those goals.”
