What Women’s Equality Means at Samsung

8/24/2020

Samsung Electronics America’s unwavering commitment to women’s equality is evidenced by the action we take to create positive change both within our organization and in the communities where we live. That action is reflected across the board from our citizenship programs that foster girls’ interest in STEM to our Women in Samsung Electronics (WISE) ERG, a network created to promote and encourage a workplace culture where everyone can thrive.

One hundred years ago, you did not have the right to vote in the U.S. if you were a woman. Women’s Equality Day celebrates the ratification of the Nineteenth Amendment, which granted some women the right to vote on August 26, 1920. The remaining barriers preventing women of color from voting were eradicated 45 years later as a result of the Voting Rights Act of 1965.

As we approach the centennial of the Nineteenth Amendment, there is much to celebrate and reflect on, including the determination of the passionate women and men who participated in the women’s suffrage movement. In fact, that hard-fought movement is not too dissimilar to what we are experiencing today, and highlights the continued efforts by women, as well as other marginalized communities, to achieve full equality.

In this video, Samsung employees sound off on what gender parity means to them in the workplace and beyond. After all, a future made by all of us is more interesting.
