Samsung Electronics Celebrates Earth Day; Reflects on Environmental Strategy Progress
4/21/2023
In September 2022, Samsung Electronics announced its environmental strategy, a comprehensive approach to join global efforts in tackling climate change. At its core, the strategy was geared towards three main goals:
- To achieve net zero emissions by 2050
- To provide energy-and resource-efficient products to empower consumers for sustainable living
- To invest in and develop innovative technologies for a better planet
This Earth Day, Samsung reflects on the progress that has been made throughout the past six months and looks forward to the next phase of changes to come.
Starting strong at ISE 2023
Since the creation of the new strategy, Samsung has hit the ground running and made significant strides towards its goals. The company showcased a new era of sustainable digital signage at Integrated Systems Europe (ISE) in January 2023, featuring a sustainability zone that highlighted the eco-conscious practices applied to digital signage products across all five stages of the product lifecycle – sourcing, production, distribution, product use and recycling. More specifically, the company showcased:
Enhanced smart signage products: Samsung’s 2023 smart signage products (QHC, QMC, QBC) are approximately 40% slimmer than previous models, which means the number of shipping containers required for logistics after production can be reduced by more than 20% compared to the previous model. In addition, smart signage products support automatic screen brightness adjustment by adopting an illuminance sensor which reacts to surrounding light conditions, helping users manage their power consumption automatically. Plus, the resin used for the rear covers contains 10% of Post-Consumer Materials (PCM).
